Change begins with our actions. "Doing" guides us in every initiative towards a more sustainable future to create a positive impact on our planet and the communities we operate in.

This is why at HDI Assicurazioni we pursue 4 pillars that are at the core of our sustainability vision: Future, Innovation, People & Environment. This is a significant commitment that will increasingly represent a distinctive feature of our corporate identity, aimed at ensuring both a widespread and lasting well-being that in turn will create shared value. It is about actively working with a desire and passion to make a difference, today and in the future.




 

The Talanx Group has been providing information about its sustainability activities since 2014 and published its first Sustainability Report in 2015.

THE VALUE OF "DOING"

 

With the Talanx Group, of which we are a part, we have signed up to the UN PRI ("Principles for Responsible Investment") with the aim of encouraging the spread of sustainable and responsible investment among institutional investors.



In addition, the Group contributes to the achievement of 13 SDGs (Sustainable Development Goals) promoted by the United Nations.

 
  • We incorporated ESG (environmental, social and governance) issues into our investment analysis and decision-making processes
  • We are active shareholders and incorporated ESG issues into our management policies and practices
  • We demanded appropriate disclosure on ESG issues by the companies in which we invest
  • We promoted acceptance and implementation of the ESG Principles among investors
  • We worked together to enhance effectiveness in implementing these Principles
  • We reported our activities and progress towards implementing the ESG Principles
 


 

DOING FOR THE FUTURE

 

“Doing for the future” represents a radical change that affects our entire corporate strategy, by embracing a new way of being, thinking and acting in a sustainable manner.

GOVERNANCE

Our governance system entrusts the Finance-ALM and Sustainability Committee with overseeing sustainable investment matters and has endorsed the six principles of the PRI – Principles for Responsible Investment.

OUR ESG POLICIES

We have integrated sustainability into our investment management through our ESG Policy, aligning financial decisions with environmental, social, and governance factors. Our ESG roadmap guides sustainable growth, and an annual ESG report is approved by the Board. In underwriting, we apply ESG policies to both Non-Life and Life insurance to manage sustainability-related risks. Additionally, we have embedded ESG objectives and KPIs into our Remuneration Policy, introduced carbon footprint indicators in the company’s supplementary contract, and, since 2023, extended ESG principles to IT processes and activities.

INVESTMENT SCREENING

We apply negative screening to our investments, excluding companies or sectors misaligned with our ESG Policy and Code of Ethics. A third party has certified that 25% of our portfolio, linked to sustainable products, meets ESG standards with scores of at least 3.5. We actively engage with invested companies to influence their ESG strategies and regularly assess our portfolio’s CO2 intensity, achieving a 51% reduction in emissions from 2019 to 2024.

RISKS AND OPPORTUNITIES

We publish the PAI report on investment impacts and presented the ESG Risk Assessment to evaluate risks and opportunities related to ESG factors.

EVENTS AND MEMBERSHIPS

In 2024, we promoted and participated in ESG events to raise awareness in the Finance & Insurance sector. As a "Sustainable Network Member" of Borsa Italiana, we contributed to ESG Talks and Euronext Sustainability Week. Our main goal is to create shared value for investors and society, in line with Sustainable and Responsible Investment principles.

PROJECTS FOR FUTURE GENERATIONS

Since 2023, we have promoted "Nel Senso Giusto" to raise road safety awareness among students, participated in the "Future Insurance Leaders" event mentoring STEM graduates through a leadership hackathon, and supported the "Conto su di me" financial education and female empowerment project by the L'Albero della Vita Foundation.

“Doing for innovation” is a continuous desire to experiment, search new solutions, products and offers with a sustainable soul.

PRODUCTS WITH SUSTAINABILITY CHARACTERISTICS

In recent years, we have developed sustainable products, launched sustainability projects, and supported impactful investment funds and entrepreneurial initiatives like Oltreventure, BarCamper, and Wonderful Italy.

SUSTAINABILITY AND INNOVATION INITIATIVES

We actively support sustainability and innovation initiatives, including participation in the Italian Insurtech Summit. We are members of PRI, PSI, the UN Global Compact, and Borsa Italiana’s Sustainable Network, and part of the Pool Ambiente consortium.

Our digital tools management is guided by three principles:

 
  • Confidentiality: ensuring data access is limited to authorized individuals
  • Integrity: maintaining accurate, validated data through authorized processes
  • Availability: ensuring data is accessible in line with business needs



THE EXCHANGE OF IDEAS

We promote innovation through courses and master's programs on various topics, and with the HDI+ project, we facilitate intercultural and professional exchanges across HDI International locations worldwide, offering international experiences.

HDI'S DIGITAL-AGILE HEADQUARTERS

Our Rome headquarters, located in Palazzo Italia in the EUR district, embodies sustainable innovation. It follows the LEED design approach, holds USGBC energy efficiency certification, and promotes "plastic-free" policies. The Agile model is integrated, with spaces designed to encourage collaboration and idea sharing.



 

DOING FOR THE PEOPLE


“Doing for the people” means the continual and consistent development of our collaborators, believing in their talent, investing in the improvement of their skill set and well-being. Further broadening our focus to the community, supporting numerous initiatives consistent with our values. We firmly believe that people are the real engine of change and will make the difference in achieving a more inclusive and sustainable world.

GROWTH AND TRAINING OF PEOPLE

We implement initiatives to enhance the skills of our employees and collaborators, focusing on their value and talent development. Our structured training plan includes mandatory training, intergenerational programs, ESG integration, and sustainability courses for the sales network.

OUR ACTIVITIES

We have promoted various initiatives to create a healthier and more inclusive work environment, including the “P A R I T “Y program for gender equality, which features the "Gender Equality Certification", a membership in the Valore D network, and Diversity & Inclusion courses. In support of gender equality, we marked the International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women by displaying red benches at our Rome and Milan offices and illuminating our headquarters in red. Additionally, we launched the “ESSERE & BENESSERE” project, offering yoga classes, seasonal fruit distribution, and wellness and nutrition expert sessions.

ACTIVITIES FOR DIVERSITY AND INCLUSION

We have adopted a Diversity and Inclusion Policy, implemented a platform for reporting ethical violations, and offer employees annual welfare benefits, family health insurance, and an accessible company website through Accessiway technologies.

SUPPORT FOR THE COMMUNITY

Our community relationship is central to our strategy, supporting initiatives that improve quality of life and promote equality. These include organizing “Carovana della Prevenzione” for women's health awareness, supporting the “AS Roma Social Camp” for children, and funding projects in developing countries providing education, medical care, and food. We also contribute to the “Banco Alimentare” campaign, aiming to donate 500,000 meals in Italy. Additionally, we support inclusive art and sports, partnering with the women's teams “Famila Basket Schio” and “AS Roma”, and collaborating with theater and sports initiatives that include people with disabilities, such as Volpi Rosse and Fly Sport Molise in wheelchair basketball.



 

DOING FOR THE ENVIRONMENT

 

From our carbon footprint to ESG policies and ratings, our “Doing for the environment” underpins a concrete and responsible commitment that impacts our entire world: offices, investments, employees and suppliers. An important step dedicated to the only planet we have. We aim to be at the forefront of the fundamental challenges affecting the environment and in particular the climate crisis, actively engaging and implementing short and long-term concrete actions.

THE CLIMATE CHANGE CHALLENGE

Every year, we continue our journey of reducing greenhouse gas emissions through significant initiatives such as the transition to renewable energy sources, the renewal of the corporate fleet, and the Sustainable Mobility Policy. We now purchase electricity solely from renewable sources (wind, solar, and hydroelectric) and monitor the Carbon Intensity of our Investment Portfolio to achieve carbon neutrality. We also certify ESG ratings for SFDR Article 8 portfolios to ensure the quality of our investments in line with European regulations. Our ESG analysis of sustainable investments includes climate-related emission parameters, and we provide ESG data for life and non-life sectors in compliance with new IVASS regulations.

In 2024, in addition to confirming the trend of emission reduction with a particular focus on decreasing natural gas consumption in offices, we launched the first CSRD 2024 reporting process. This initiative involved numerous company departments and led to the reporting of approximately 80 KPIs across environmental, social, and governance (ESG) factors. This process was successfully completed with the attainment of the first audit certification issued by the auditing firm PwC.

OUR ACTIVITIES

In partnership with Carglass, we've saved over 50,000kg of CO2 emissions through windshield repairs. Through the "RicicliAmo" project, we achieved a 34.17% material recovery and 60.85% energy recovery from office waste. Lastly, we rewarded top-performing HDI agents with electric cars via the "Alla RI-CARICA" competition.

ENVIRONMENTAL PROJECTS

We have supported environmental projects, including beekeeping initiatives linked to sustainable insurance policies, and participated in the "Fishing for Litter" program to protect the seas. We also organized the "Together for Our Seas" event, where 120 employees helped clean the coast of Rome. Additionally, we support the Masseria Antonio Ferraioli project, where over 300 families engage in community activities promoting legality.

 

 

 

GREEN POLICIES FOR OFFICES AND THE SUPPLY CHAIN

 

To reduce our environmental impact, we introduced a paperless policy in 2021 and a plastic-free campaign, cutting plastic consumption by 900 kg per year.

In mobility, we implemented a sustainable travel management procedure and developed a “green” corporate fleet, now 50% electric or hybrid.

Additionally, we conducted a survey to assess employee commuting emissions, providing key data for the CSRD.

Ensuring the well-being of the planet and of tomorrow’s generation is the most challenging insurance. But it is a commitment that we want to embody with seriousness and concreteness, more and more each day.
