HISTORY
The HDI Group’s history.
In 1881, a group of railway workers established “Società di Mutuo Soccorso”, a mutual insurance association.
In 1967, ”Banca Nazionale delle Comunicazioni” was established in Rome two divisions: “Lending” for banking operations and “Insurance”.
In 1992, the public entity was transformed into two separate joint stock companies. All shares of the insurance company, named BNC Assicurazioni, were sold to Turin-based San Paolo IMI, and it began operating independently.
In 1997, the Hannover-based insurance group HDI bought 71.68% of BNC Assicurazioni.
At the turn of the new millennium, the insurance group Mannheimer AG became a shareholder of BNC Assicurazioni with the contribution of La Mannheim Assicurazioni e Riassicurazioni.
In 2001, BNC Assicurazioni and Mannheim Assicurazioni e Riassicurazioni merged, forming HDI Assicurazioni.
In 2002, the Talanx Group (an offshoot of the HDI Group) acquired Mannheimer AG’s investment in the company.
In 2004, the Talanx Group expanded its ownership when it purchased Turin-based San Paolo IMI’s 28.32% interest in the company. The Talanx Group became the insurance company’s sole owner.
In 2016, HDI Assicurazioni bought the insurance company CBA Vita from the Banca SellaGroup.
In 2017, the insurance companies CBA Vita and InChiaro Assicurazioni merged into HDI Assicurazioni.
In 2021, HDI Assicurazioni acquires Amissima Assicurazioni SpA.
In 2023 HDI Italia (already Amissima Assicurazioni) merged into HDI Assicurazioni.
